Insta360 X6: Inspiration in Every Direction

Product FilmLaunchTech

A cinematic launch film pairing tactile studio product shots with immersive 360 footage across Sydney.

01Approach

Creative direction

Insta360 approached me to create a product video for the launch of their new X6 360 camera. I shaped the cinematography, edit and grade around making the camera feel tactile and cinematic, pairing detailed product shots with footage that demonstrated its creative possibilities.

The aim was to give the features a visual context, moving between close-up details of the camera and immersive sequences captured across Sydney.

02Process

Behind the scenes

I filmed the product sequences on my Sony ZV-E1, turning my room into a small studio with a single light. Working within that setup meant being precise with lighting, framing and movement to create clean images that gave the camera a polished, premium presence.

For the close-up POV sequence, I connected two magic arms and used a vintage 28mm lens to capture the camera in operation. It was a resourceful setup that let the viewer move with the product, bringing a more physical perspective to the controls and display.

Outside the studio, I filmed across Sydney, including a ferry journey beneath the Harbour Bridge. Using Insta360’s professional stitching software, I brought the footage together into a smoothly tracked hyperlapse, giving the film a sense of scale and movement beyond the controlled product shots.

03Impact

Result & response

The finished piece brought studio product cinematography and on-location footage into one launch video, showcasing the X6’s features alongside the experiences it could capture.

For me, the project was an exercise in creating a premium product film with a compact setup. A single light, an improvised camera rig and carefully chosen locations gave the piece its combination of intimate detail and expansive movement.
