Hong Kong Through My Eyes

Hong Kong Through My Eyes is a short Instagram edit inspired by a city I have always felt personally connected to. Hong Kong was where my videography journey first began, and creating this piece gave me the opportunity to revisit a place that played a significant role in shaping my interest in filmmaking while showcasing it through a more developed creative lens.

The film captures Hong Kong as one of the most visually unique cities in the world, a place where East meets West, where dense architecture, neon streets, harbour views, taxis, fireworks, and iconic towers all exist within the same visual language.

The edit opens with a firework timed directly to the pop of BUNT.'s "Crazy," using the music as a cue for the visual rhythm. From there, it moves immediately into a cinematic aerial view of Hong Kong, before cutting to the same city at night, creating a sharp contrast between scale, colour, and mood.

I built the piece around visual motifs that respond to the music, taking inspiration from creators like Tyron Shi and the way sound can be translated into image. The fireworks return later in the edit to connect back to the opening, while the Hong Kong taxi, night skyline, and final shot of the Bank of China Tower ground the film in some of the city's most recognisable visual symbols.

This piece was not made purely for views. It was made because Hong Kong felt too visually powerful not to honour properly. The film became a benchmark for my creative capabilities, showing how much stronger my sense of pacing, music, colour, and visual storytelling had become since I first started filming there.

The video reached 12K views and 700 likes, but its real value was personal. It gave me a way to look back at where I started, while creating something that felt fully aligned with the filmmaker I am becoming.
